Return To The Towers, began it's life and Journey as nothing
more than a test of an idea I had in my head. It's been 5 years
since 9/11, and heard that the construction of the new Trade
Center was beginning. So, I needed to get to NY.... I had never
been back to the towers since 9/11, I had never seen, with my
own eyes, the void that remains. Equipped with Cameras, we made our way to
NYC. The trip didn't go super smoothly and I came back with
allot less than I had hoped, though some of the things we saw
and captured, left there mark. To my surprise, it wasn't so much
the site that moved me, but the emotions around it... The
memorials, the People...... As I flipped through the images, I
had a vision in my head of a slideshow, detailing the trip to
the site, the site itself, and the people that surround it.....
It was 3am, and I started to tinker, just to see what might be
possible IF, I did such a thing.... 1.5 hours later, I had a 2.5
min video done. I showed it to a few people just for the heck of
it, and the rest is history. It made its way from inbox to
inbox, visiting the screens of many people, who responded
positively to it. This was a total surprise to me, as it was
nothing more than a little test, for myself, to see if a video
slideshow, with the few images I had, was potentially doable....down
the road. Suddenly, this little test had peoples attention, and
I was asked to submit it to a TV show called SCREEN WARS. I
thought the idea was just plain silly, and dismissed it....
however, that didn't seam to work.... the request continued, and
I finally agreed to do it. Expecting rejection, but not willing
to submit junk, I put the little video back into my studio, and
went to work on it. During the process, 2 pictures were removed,
and 2 new ones took there place, credits were added, along with
a behind the scenes slideshow and dozens of edits and other
changes. One thing was still missing..... On the 5 year
anniversary of 9/11, we took another trip to Jersey City, across
from the Trade Center.... and attempted to shoot the TRIBUNE IN
LIGHTS for the purpose of adding a picture of them to the video.
Hours of shooting produced only one image I consider acceptable,
and it was carefully placed into the video.....After about 25
hours of revising and re-revising, I finally called it quits,
and walked away with a little 3min video called "RETURN TO THE
TOWERS." Please, watch it... and vote for it on Feb 21st & 22nd. |
